The first time I met Blick it was on a rainy summer night at “Le Parc De La Villette”.
That night, the Cap Verdian singer Lura sings on an opened stage and following a friend’s advice I join in a small bunch of musician who were eating on the grass. Some are cape Verdians, other Senegalese and even Brazilians.
Memories of my cap Verdian’s life then reappear and in less than a two seconds I feel like I’m back a few years later in west Africa.
A white girl speaking Capo Verde’s Creole? Uncommon right! As a reaction some of the musician laughed heartily and started talking.
The mood settled, I notice one of the musician, a bit shy : it was Blick.
A nice summer rain felt down on us during the whole show but it didn’t mattered or spirit had left Paris, we were elsewhere…
A few weeks later I meet Blick again at the Baisé Salé… We talk about travels and music, then we say we need to keep in touch but we don’t.
Almost a year later a customer of the music shop I work at hands a cd over to me… “Blick Bassi, Léman”.
Huge smile on my face. I do my best so that the album can be heard in the “world” music section and ask for pre-orders of the album before I could even listen to it! I buy it the same day and in two seconds my spirit leaves Europe once again…Blick does have a wonderful voice, a precious and an accomplished musicality, a mood and a world of his own. I’m amazed.
A week later another customer comes and talk to me about the news in the world section .
I introduce Blick’s album, and then, incredible, the two men know each other and are friend…
When destiny blend in with it, better not ignoring it! I meet blick again after several months to congratulate him. We talk about music, Africa and he accepts to come and introduce his album “Léman” and his background at “L’Atelier58.
Deep and at the same time sincere, this album is pure wonder… It reflects an original life full of emotion and rightness. Blick Bassi found himself and he comes to talk about his life and origins peacefully and relaxed…
